Post-Apocalypse, Sci-Fi, Thriller, and even Fantasy authors, this one goes out to you!
“There is a feeling of elation. The war has ended and our boys are coming home. After years of fighting a faraway foe, we’ve won. We’ve secured peace in our time.”
As this little quote says, there was a war, maybe against orcs, terrorists, aliens, anything. It raged on for far too long. The public was growing sick and tired of the conflict that they thought they may lose. Many soldiers and civilians alike were killed.
But now it’s over. People are celebrating. For the first time in years, there’s dancing in the streets. Patriotism is at an all-time high.
Those heroic soldiers are about to be the death of their loved ones.
They’ve brought with them a sickness. Some sort of disease that might just wipe out their whole nations and possibly the whole world.
Maybe the illness came from nowhere. Maybe it mutated from some common illness on the return voyage. Maybe it’s a weaponized virus that was either released intentionally or unintentionally in the fighting.
In a few short weeks, the sense of elation will be cut short as everyone comes to grips with the idea that they might just be the last of humanity.
Alright, as usual, this prompt is free to use however you like. 🙂 Sorry I’m a bit late again. I also must note that you might want to put off releasing something like this, if you write a book of it, for a few shakes because of real-world stuff. People might get angry. That being said, I actually hadn’t considered Coronavirus when Is started writing this, I was thinking about soldiers coming home and the Black Plague and how sicknesses that people weren’t accustomed to killed so many in the New World way back when. You can draw inspiration from those and, thanks to real-life experiences, you can draw from what we’re going through now too. 🙂
Write on and God bless! This prompt is free to use however you please.
